Principal's Message
Welcome to Our Assumption Family: Kindergarten 2026 Orientation
Last week we welcomed our newest families as we began Kindergarten Orientation for 2026. It is always such a special time for our school community. It is a time filled with excitement, curiosity and hope for the years ahead.
At the heart of these early experiences is the importance of building strong relationships. When children feel connected to their teachers, classmates and school, they grow in confidence and are ready to learn. Our staff are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every child is known, valued and supported. Each little person did an incredible job adjusting to Big School.
We are deeply grateful to our families for the trust they place in us and for the partnership that begins from these first days. Working together, we can ensure each child’s transition to school is filled with joy and a true sense of belonging.

NAIDOC Week 2025
Our school community came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week last week. It was a time to recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision, & Legacy,” reminds us of the strength, resilience and pride that continue to shine through the world’s oldest living cultures.
Our celebrations included opportunities for students to learn, reflect and connect through art, storytelling, song and ceremony. These experiences help deepen our understanding of shared history and strengthen our commitment to reconciliation and respect.
A massive thank you to Mrs Kylie Martinez and Mr Max Martinez for their leadership of our NAIDOC week activities.
We are grateful to the families and community members who joined us and to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and staff who continue to lead us with pride, knowledge and generosity of spirit.
Yours in Education
Angela Muller

End of Year Diagnostic Assessments
Next week we will begin our end of year Diagnostic assessment period. These are a fantastic opportunity for our teachers to celebrate the growth of the students across 2025. All students will complete a Dibels reading assessment and students in Year 2 - 6 will complete the PAT Reading and PAT Mathematics assessments.
Over the second semester we have had a targeted approach to reading fluency with all students practicing their fluency daily in class. Another key indicator of student achievement is that they are reading every night. Just like a sport skill that requires practice, reading regularly is essential for students to achieve at their grade level each year.
Supporting University Students
This week we will say goodbye to Katie Cuzner who has been on a prac teaching experience in 3 Yellow for six weeks. 3 Yellow have loved having her in the classroom and under the guidance of Ms Dana Jarrett Katie has developed many skills as a teacher. We wish Katie the best with her teaching future and a big thank you to Ms Jarrett for her support of Early Career Teacher development.
Uniforms and Belongings
Each day we have quite a number of student belongings that go missing. Please ensure your child’s items are clearly labelled so that they can be returned to the correct student.
Healthy Harold
In Week 6 Healthy Harold will be visiting our school. All students in K-6 will attend Healthy Harold sessions. These sessions are part of our PDHPE curriculum and are an engaging way to teach our children about healthy choices for ourselves.

Sunday, 9th November 2025: Thirty-Second Sunday Ordinary Time - Year C
The Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
John 2:13-22 He spoke about the temple of his own body.
Gospel Reflection
This Sunday we celebrate the dedication of the St John Lateran Church in Rome. This church is the ‘mother church’ of all Roman Catholic churches. It is the church of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope. It was dedicated in the fourth century. In celebrating this dedication we also celebrate our own local church and, more importantly, the people who worship in the building - the community of faith.
Ezekiel sees the Temple as a source of life for all land and the creatures which inhabit land and sea, through the water flowing from God’s presence in the Temple. In the Gospel of John we see what the Temple has become. Jesus rejects the Temple’s reduction to a commercial centre, predicting its destruction and presenting his body as the new Temple. The Church must never merely reflect the world, but its people must be people of God.
Gospel Challenge
There is a focus on the need for the church to be God’s Temple. Can we help our children to see themselves as God’s Church, not just in worshipping in their local church, but being people of God in their daily lives?
Year 5 Leadership Day
Year 5 had a leadership experience with Years 9 and 10 students from MacKillop College on Monday where they were discussing how to Lead like Jesus did. It was a great experience for all. Thank you Amber and Lilly and the Year 10 students for working in such a collaborative way with our students. They have learnt a lot that will help them move forward as they become the next leaders in Year 6, 2026.

Melbourne Cup for Mission Mufti Day
Thank you everyone for your generosity for our Mission Day. We raised $463.65 to help others.
This Social Justice Initiative is such a fun one as the children get very involved. Some photos from today.

Polding Girls U12 Rugby League Development/Polding Selection Day.
The Polding Girls U12 Rugby League Development/Polding Selection Day was held on Friday 24th October at Noraville. 61 players attended the selection day with students coming from far and wide across NSW. The standard of Rugby League skills was incredibly high which made the selection process very difficult. A Polding team was chosen to play a match against the MacKillop team on December 7th. The 5 girls from Yr 6 who attended the day were Harper, Harper, Mina, Amelia and Eva-Rose. The girls showed great effort and skill and should be very proud of the way they played and conducted themselves. A special shout out to Harper from 6Y who was chosen in the Possible/Probables game (the top 26 players of the original 61).
NRL Wheelchair Rugby League
The Assumption School is excited to announce that our Stage 3 students (Yr 5 and 6) will participate in a sports session tomorrow with the people from NRL Wheelchair Rugby League. Wheelchair Rugby League is an inclusive and accessible version of rugby league that anyone can play—whether you have a disability or not. The game was developed in 2000 by French rugby league players Robert Fassolette and Wally Salvan with the goal of ensuring that rugby league could be enjoyed by people of all abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels. Wheelchair Rugby League is more than just a sport—it’s a game that brings people together. It’s designed to be inclusive, ensuring that anyone, regardless of ability or experience, can participate and enjoy the competition, strategy, and camaraderie that rugby league is known for.
Our Turn - Rugby Union
NSW Rugby are offering girls from 12 years of age the opportunity to participate in a training session to be held in Bathurst (Friday 21st November), Orange (Saturday 22nd November) or Mudgee (Sunday 23rd November). Accredited coaches will focus on tackling techniques and rugby skills. Please find the attached flyer for more information and details on how to sign up for this wonderful opportunity.

Supporting Children Through Change: Year 6 Transition “Feelings” Sessions
As our Year 6 students prepare for the exciting move to high school, they are taking part in special Transition “Feelings” Sessions with our school counsellor, Julie and their teachers. These sessions are designed to help students recognise and understand the wide range of emotions that come with change, whether those feelings are comfortable or uncomfortable.
Children often experience mixed emotions during times of transition: excitement, curiosity and pride, alongside worry, sadness or uncertainty. By talking about these feelings openly, students learn that it’s completely normal to feel both nervous and excited about new experiences. The sessions focus on helping students name their emotions, understand why they feel that way and explore healthy ways to cope with change.
While these sessions are designed for Year 6, the strategies are valuable for children of all ages. Parents can support wellbeing at home by having calm, open conversations about change: big or small.
Discussion Starters for Home:
- “How are you feeling about trying something new?”
- “What’s something exciting about this change?”
- “Is there anything that feels a bit uncomfortable? What could help?”
- “Can you think of a time you felt nervous but it turned out okay?”
- “Who can you talk to if you feel worried or unsure?”
Helping children recognise both their comfortable and uncomfortable feelings teaches them that emotions are a normal part of growth and new experiences. By encouraging these conversations, families can build resilience, confidence and emotional awareness skills that will support children well beyond the classroom.
Big changes can bring big feelings and that’s okay. What matters most is learning to understand them together.

Assumption School Celebrates NAIDOC Week!
What a wonderful and busy NAIDOC Week we have had at Assumption School! We hosted the Primary School NAIDOC Disco, welcoming students from all Bathurst schools to celebrate and dance together. Our students also proudly joined the Bathurst community in the NAIDOC March, an inspiring event bringing schools and community together.
At our own Assumption NAIDOC Gathering, led by our Year 6 First Nations leaders, we reflected on the meaning and significance of NAIDOC. Across all classrooms, students engaged in learning about the importance of NAIDOC and the vital role of First Nations Peoples in our country’s story.
This year’s theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” celebrates 50 years of NAIDOC. It honours the resilience and achievements of past generations while celebrating the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
Thankyou to the students, staff, family and community for your support and joining us in our celebrations.
